OOIPSCU Conversion Utility

The OOIPSCU Palm-SPEC Conversion Utility software is designed to retrieve Palm-SPEC files from the

Palm-SPEC. With this utility, you can copy or transfer Palm-SPEC files from your Aero to your desktop or

laptop PC. (See

note below.) Before copying or transferring Palm-SPEC files, you can choose how you

would like the Palm-SPEC files converted. You can choose to have your Palm-SPEC files converted to tab-

delimited, comma-delimited, OOIBase32, or Grams/32 SPC files. You can also use the utility to delete

Palm-SPEC files from the Aero and to create new directories on the Aero.

For the QC professional, OOIPSCU Palm-SPEC Conversion Utility software includes a log, which documents

all conversion utility events and stamps each event with a data and time and the user operating the software.

The Palm-SPEC Conversion Utility was designed by Ocean Optics to manipulate Palm-SPEC files

only. To handle any other files on your Aero, please consult with your Compaq documentation.

Quick Start

Follow the directions below and on page 26 for transferring Palm-SPEC files from your Aero to your

desktop or laptop PC. For detailed information about each function of OOIPSCU, see pages 27-30.

Install OOIPSCU onto your desktop or laptop PC.

1. Close all applications.

2. Insert the Ocean Optics Software and Resources Library CD into your CD-ROM drive. Navigate to

OOIPSCU Palm-SPEC Conversion Utility.

3. Execute

Setup.exe

4. At the “Welcome” dialog box, click

Next>

5. At the “Choose Destination Location” dialog box, you can choose

Browse

to pick a destination

directory or accept the default destination directory. Click

Next>

6. At the “Backup Replaced Files” dialog box, select either

Yes

. We recommend selecting Yes. If

you select Yes, you can choose

Browse

to pick a destination directory or accept the default destination

directory. Click

Next>

7. Select a Program Manager Group. Click

Next>

. At the “Start Installation” dialog box, click

Next>

8. At the “Installation Complete” dialog box, choose

Finish>

Connect the Aero to your desktop or laptop PC.

9. Remove the Aero from the Palm-SPEC Spectrophotometer.

10. Find the AC adapter that came with your system. Plug the AC adapter into the bottom of the Aero and

connect the adapter to a power outlet. For added safety, insert the AC adapter into a surge-protected

power strip.

11. Find the serial cable that came with your system. Connect one end of the cable to the bottom of the

Aero and connect the 9-pin end of the cable to an RS-232 port on your PC.

Run OOIPSCU on your desktop or laptop computer.

12. Navigate to the OOIPSCU icon and start the software.
