14.3.5 CCL capacitor backwards
A bunch of systems left AYR between WK21 and WK31 of 1994 with capacitor C14 on the
CCL module reversed. Most of these systems have been traced by DECnumber, so I mention
it here just in case one or two slip through and cause subsequent problems. When the
capacitor fails it will prevent the system from powering up. Thus it’s failure will only show
up when the system is next powered down! Now fixed by FCO 7xxx-F005 (see Section 13).
This is the correct orientation of C14:

14.3.6 DEC7000 with >2GB memory, CIXCD, running OpenVMS, may crash
On the DEC7000/10000, the CIXCD does not handle addresses above 2 gigabytes correctly
for a special case. The symptoms are a system crash, with a reference to non-existant
memory.
For systems running OpenVMS with adequate non-paged pool there will not be a problem.
One workaround, therefore, is to ensure that the OpenVMS sysgen parameters are adjusted
to create sufficient non-paged pool to cover the system’s heaviest load periods. Altenatively,
a corrected version of the CIXCD microcode can be obtained from:
PROXY"FAL$ACCESS"::CI_PUBLIC:[PUBLIC]CIMNA_X12.SYS
This is a MOP bootable LFU image containing only the new CIXCD microcode. The corrected
CIXCD microcode will be included in a regular release of the LASER Firmware Update
Utility (LFU) currently targeted for February ’95.
14.3.7 DEMFA Firmware V2.0 and OpenVMS AXP V1.5
The latest DEMFA firmware is V2.0, and spare modules are likely to come with this version.
Unfortunately OpenVMS AXP V1.5 can only recognise DEMFA firmware up to V1.4. So if
you replace a DEMFA, you may have to downgrade it to V1.4 firmware, using the LFU.
14.3.8 DSSI PIU Disk Brick Gotcha
On the front of each DSSI disk brick are two sets of indicator switches, one for each drive.
At first glance they look like LEDs, but in fact they are also pushbuttons. So, if your drive
won’t power up, you probably need to operate the "power" pushbutton. See DEC/VAX 7000
Pocket Service Guide or BA654, DSSI Disk PIU Installation Guide for a full description.
