Introduction

ÄKTA™purifier (Fig 1) is a liquid chromatography system

designed for fast and reliable separations of proteins,

peptides and nucleic acids.

ÄKTApurifier runs all chromatography techniques, from µg

to mg scale at flow rates 0.001 ml/min – 10 ml/min and

pressures 0–25 MPa or alternatively at flow rates 0.01–100

ml/min and pressures 0–10 MPa. With operational simplicity

and the method wizard ÄKTApurifier incorporates many

features to minimize preparation and run times and

maximize reliability and reproducibility of results.

ÄKTApurifier is essential to guarantee fast, reproducible

runs everyday, as shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3.

ÄKTApurifier systems are part of ÄKTAdesign, a range of

liquid chromatography systems for academic and industrial

research laboratories. ÄKTAdesign systems are controlled

by UNICORN™ , a control, evaluation and reporting

platform which also controls production systems at

kilogram scale. Designed for Windows NT™/Windows

2000, UNICORN ensures quick, simple communication

between systems and users and meets the stringent control

and data handling procedures of modern laboratories.

Optimized methods are transferred easily to production

scale.
